Cravings is a small home-based business specializing in custom cakes and desserts. The focus is on unique items made from scratch using all fresh ingredients, where taste is just as important as looks. I consider myself a cook first and a decorator second.

The idea for Cravings began over 20 years ago, when a co-worker brought in a cake that she had decorated while taking a course at a local craft store. I had always enjoyed baking, and decided to add decorating to my list of hobbies. I made several cakes and giant cookies just for fun, and as the demand grew, I started taking orders for sale. Initially I did a lot of children’s birthday cakes, but then branched out into cakes for school and business functions, small weddings, and the like. A friend and I even dabbled in small catering jobs on the side, but I discovered that the sweet treats were really my passion.

Along the way I’ve had my share of mishaps, like the birthday party in June, where it was so hot inside the crowded house that the buttercream icing started oozing off the sides of the cake, and we had to take pictures in a real hurry… Or when my older daughter (at the time 3 years old) was looking at a bridal shower cake where I had painstakingly worked to master the basket weave technique. I heard "Pretty cake, Mommy. Pretty cake. Ummmm, GOOD cake, Mommy!" and entered the room to find her little fingers swiping off the intricately-applied frosting…

We live in Alpharetta, Georgia, so you may have seen my cakes or cookies at events for neighborhood sports teams, Centennial High School, Greek organizations at Georgia Tech, and various places that I have worked. As this is not my primary occupation, I only take on a few projects a month so that I can really concentrate on making something memorable, no matter what the occasion.

Nothing pleases me more than to hear "It’s too pretty to eat, but too good not to"!
